Overview
Full Day Nairobi National Park Safari is a perfect one-day wildlife experience for travelers who want to discover Kenya’s wildlife without leaving Nairobi for a multi-day safari.
Your day combines an early morning game drive through Nairobi National Park with a visit to the Giraffe Centre. You will have opportunities to see rhinos, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and other wildlife before getting close to Rothschild’s giraffes at the conservation centre.
Nairobi National Park is located close to the city and covers approximately 117 square kilometers. Kenya Wildlife Service describes it as home to more than 100 animal species, four of the Big Five and more than 400 bird species.
This Full Day Nairobi National Park Safari is particularly suitable for travelers with limited time in Kenya, including visitors staying in Nairobi, business travelers, families, couples, solo travelers and passengers with a long Nairobi stopover.
Day 1: Nairobi National Park Safari & Giraffe Centre
06:00–06:30 AM – Pickup from Your Hotel
Your Full Day Nairobi National Park Safari begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel, residence, airport or another agreed location in Nairobi.
Meet your professional driver-guide and depart for Nairobi National Park. The early start allows you to reach the park during the cooler morning hours when many animals are active.
Nairobi National Park is only about 10 kilometers from Nairobi’s Central Business District, making it possible to enjoy a genuine safari without a long journey outside the capital.
Overnight: None – Day trip
06:30–10:30 AM – Morning Game Drive in Nairobi National Park
Enter Nairobi National Park and begin your morning game drive.
Your guide will take you across the park’s open grasslands, riverine areas and wildlife habitats while searching for some of Kenya’s most iconic animals.
Possible sightings include:
- Black and white rhinos
- Lions
- Leopards
- Buffaloes
- Giraffes
- Zebras
- Wildebeest
- Antelopes
- Hippos
- Crocodiles
- Numerous bird species
Nairobi National Park is especially famous for its rhino conservation. The Kenya Wildlife Service identifies the park as an important sanctuary for black rhinos and confirms that the park contains four of the traditional Big Five: lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo. Elephants are not present in the park.
Keep your camera ready throughout the drive. One of the most distinctive features of this safari is the possibility of photographing wildlife with Nairobi’s modern skyline in the background.
10:30–11:00 AM – Exit Nairobi National Park
After several hours of wildlife viewing, leave Nairobi National Park and continue toward the Lang’ata area.
Your guide can use this time to explain more about the wildlife you encountered and help you prepare for the next experience of the day.
11:00 AM–12:30 PM – Visit the Giraffe Centre
Continue your Full Day Nairobi National Park Safari with a visit to the Giraffe Centre.
The centre provides visitors with an opportunity to get close to Rothschild’s giraffes and learn about giraffe conservation.
Walk up to the elevated viewing platform, meet the giraffes and, where permitted, feed them under the guidance of the centre’s staff.
This is a very different experience from the morning game drive. Instead of observing wildlife from a safari vehicle, you can experience these remarkable animals at close range while learning about conservation.
The Giraffe Centre is also a good option for families and photographers because visitors can observe the giraffes from several different viewpoints.
12:30–01:30 PM – Lunch in Nairobi
After visiting the Giraffe Centre, enjoy lunch at a selected restaurant in Nairobi.
Your lunch location can be arranged according to your preferences, budget and itinerary.
You may choose a relaxed restaurant in the Karen or Lang’ata area, or return toward the city for additional dining options.
01:30–03:00 PM – Optional Nairobi Experience
If your schedule allows, you can add another Nairobi attraction before returning to your hotel.
Optional experiences may include:
- Karen Blixen Museum
- Kazuri Beads
- Nairobi city sightseeing
- David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, subject to its operating schedule
- Local shopping
- Additional photography experiences
These additions are optional and can be removed if you prefer a shorter and more relaxed day.

03:00–04:00 PM – Return to Your Hotel
After completing the day’s activities, your driver-guide will transfer you back to your hotel, residence, airport or another agreed location in Nairobi.
The exact return time depends on traffic, your chosen activities and your preferred schedule.
04:00 PM – End of the Safari
Your Full Day Nairobi National Park Safari ends after your return transfer.
If this is your first day in Kenya, you can continue your journey with a longer safari to destinations such as the Maasai Mara, Amboseli National Park, Lake Nakuru or Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
For travelers with more time, our 10-Day Kenya Safari Adventure provides a longer route through several of Kenya’s major wildlife destinations.
